Major System Components

Granite shareholder management software is a modular system designed to simplify today’s most common ANCSA shareholder transactions while providing the flexibility to meet company-specific needs. Granite is a modular software system designed to track and manage a variety of records and processes

Entity

Contains information on shareholders and on individuals who have some relevant relationship to shareholders, such as stock custodians. Supports easy and accurate entry of individual shareholder data and displays user alerts in certain circumstances (e.g., no stock will on file, stale-dated payments, etc.). Users can also store electronic documents, scan returned mail and generate shareholder dividend confirmations. Stock will tracking and tools aid in the efficient administration and settlement of stock estates.

Certificates

Track who owns (or owned) shares, and the assignment of rights associated with those shares. Effortlessly transfer shares via estate settlement, inter vivos gifting, minor reach majority and other wizards that incorporate business rules for the various transfer types. Drill-down views enable user to discern the source or disposition of shares, along with any fiduciary information.

Payments

Process dividends and distributions, including both share-based payments, such as dividends and resource revenue distributions, and per capita payments, such as Elders’ payments. Supports direct deposit and multiple source bank accounts, and provides for monetary estate settlements and other types of reissued payments. Deductions allow master entry of across-the-board deductions, or individual shareholder entry, and provide for prioritization of multiple withholdings. Annual check functionality affords option for liabilities generated in connection with owners of small share amounts to be held and paid annually. Entity payment screen allows users to view individual payment history when talking to shareholders.

Reports

Quickly generate a statistical and other reports. Users may choose from a variety of pre-defined reports or develop ad-hoc reports for specific tasks or planning purposes.

Events

Track RSVPs and attendance at shareholder events. Facilitates creation of date of record files and association mailing lists, as well as efficient event registration Supports tabulation of proxy and ballot votes.

Admin

Granite’s administrative tasks are separated into three panes—Business Operations, Systems Settings and Security, so users can perform tasks such as generating data for IRS Forms 1099 and shareholder ID card mailings, and administrators can set system parameters, edit table types or assign role-based user permissions.

The technology

Granite is built with the power and flexibility of Microsoft software including database, application and reporting tools. Granite conforms to an industry-standard, n-tier framework approach that divides the system into horizontal slices representing logical layers for data access, business logic and presentation. Granite’s software code and documentation allow programmers to understand, use, support and modify the system internally.

Users access the system via a role-based security architecture that ensures data integrity by providing granular access to sensitive information. If desired, stand-alone, limited views may be created for related entities, such as affiliated nonprofit organizations that need to verify eligibility for services.

Initial training is provided to in-house staff to facilitate ongoing maintenance and support. Granite licensees continue to receive system support and upgrades following setup.
